An event that had it all, the London buzz was in full flow for the Nike Mercurial 360 launch, which I was lucky enough to experience with Footy-Boots.
Some of London’s finest attended, from high profile footballers to the biggest hitters in grime game. The event kicked off at the Printworks London Surrey Quay, known as the old printing warehouse for the likes of the Daily Mail & Telegraph Newspapers.
The impressive space held many exciting reveals, leading up to the big launch of the Mercurial Superfly 360. Nike Football went all out with this event, starting things off with the England football kit for the World Cup. Senior designer Pete Hoppins, went straight back to basics with this one, bringing back the all-white & all-red strips.
The home kit:
The classic white shirt, paired with blue short and white socks, screams the look of old. The modern rib collar features a small St.George’s cross crest. The England crest sitting on the chest, has the star above, symbolising Englands FC greatest ever achievements.
The away kit:
Again with the classic red away kit, the two-tone red famously linked with the 1966 world cup win. A tonal graphic covers the shirt, which takes inspiration from a modern St. Georges’s Cross. The kit is completed by white shorts and red socks. A pure white Nike swoosh highlights the kit, with the Englands crest sitting opposite.
After unveiling the England strip, Nike introduced their brand new Jersey Shop. The room showcased the finest Nike limited-edition and collaborative shirts, launched as part of the online launch.
The Nike by You project, run with the Jersey shop, opens up Nike design and manufacturing to create people and brands alike. 24 London and Romance FC were showcased at the event, highlighting the creative partnership in football.
Easily one of my favourites taken from the whole event, and possible one of the best looking kits I’ve sen in a while. The big reveal of the Nigeria 2018 World Cup Collection came with so much passion. The strong visuals of the home, away and third kit are stunning. If England fall short in the group stages, I know who I’m following next…
As we took a quick break, we began to prepare for the main unveiling. The whole day has led to this point, spreading anticipation through every person there. The unleashing of the Mercurial Superfly 360 and Mercurial Vapor 360 took the internet by storm. Media from around the world captured some of the best footballers to ever grace the pitch, including Brazilian star Neymar Jr.
Each arriving by a personal Mercurial supercar, players such as Ronaldo, Alexis Sanchez & Marcus Rashford, plus many more were in attendance. Nike Footballs global VP, Max Blau, took to the stage with Neymar Jr to discuss the revolutionary Mercurial Boots in more detail, explaining the ins and outs of the ever popular boot.
As far as events go, Nike complete broke the internet with this one. From the planning to the product, Nike gave their all to this and it really showed. This is how you put on a show.
